Italian Chief Rabbi Elio Toaff cabled today an appeal to Col, Gamel Nasser, Premier of Egypt, urging to extend clemency to the 12 Egyptian Jews on trail in Cairo on charges of “espionage” in behalf of Israel. The Chief Rabbi’s plea urged the Egyptian Premier to extend clemency to the defendants in the name of humanity and a respect for human life.
Reports from Egypt state that the Cairo tribunal hearing the charges against the 12 Jews concluded its hearings and forwarded its findings to Egyptian Premier Nasser for confirmation.
