Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said talks he is mediating on an Israeli-Palestinian prisoner swap are nearing fruition. Mubarak said in comments published Thursday that negotiations on the release of Cpl. Gilad Shalit, an Israeli soldier kidnapped by Palestinian gunmen from the Gaza Strip in June, “are in their final stage and await the approval of Hamas.”
