Israeli military officials reported today that, for the fourth day in a row, Egyptian positions on the west bank of the Suez Canal shelled Israelis on the east bank. On the other side of Israel, the officials said, Syrian gunners violated the cease-fire by twice firing at Israeli positions near El. Kuneitra. Israel informed the United Nations about the twin violations.
The Egyptians fired machine guns yesterday toward a group of foreign correspondents and television teams visiting the east bank of the canal north of Kantara. No casualties were reported. In another incident on the Sinai front, a mine exploded under a train enroute from Kantara to El Arish. The locomotive and a number of cars were derailed but no casualties were reported.
