Egypt’s armed forces were placed yesterday on an emergency alert to face “Israeli aggression against Syria, ” according to reports received here last night from Cairo. Syria sent a note to the Arab League on “Israeli aggression, ” according to the reports, and the League called a meeting for creation of a “unified Arab plan” on the issue.
In Amman, Premier Sherif Hussein ben Nasser said that Jordan had always considered the armistice borders between Israel and the neighboring Arab countries an “Arab defense line,” and that any “aggression” against any border would be considered a collective act against “the Arab world. ” Saudi Arabia was also reported “ready” to join in a concerted Arab war against Israel, while Iraq made an announcement of “emergency” readiness yesterday.
