A leader of World Zionism and former diplomatic of Israel told a Zionist Organization of America Aliyah Conference today that the more people come to Israel the more Israel can absorb. The Zionist leader, Ehud Avriel, who is now chairman of the Actions Committee (General Council) of the World Zionist Organization, also told the several hundred persons at the ZOA meeting, that Israel wants people from all walks of life, including grandparents, because “grandparents bring grandchildren.” Mr. Avriel expected that the 1969 figure of about 6,050 immigrants from the U.S. to Israel would be surpassed this year. He said he based this on reports and his trip through the U.S. on a speaking tour for the ZOA.
Mr. Avriel said that the awareness of the security needs in Israel induces many young people abroad to come to Israel to replace those called for defense duties…Commenting further, Mr. Avriel pointed out that each new Jew who comes to Israel and begins working creates new Job possibilities for others. Mr. Avriel said there was a Zionist revival in the world. He also declared that the Jewish Agency’s Aliyah Department was improving and adjusting its machinery to the growing needs of aliyah work. He said the aliyah department was now organized in a more modern manner than in the past. Stressing the need for aliyah, Mr. Avriel said that there is a tremendous challenge in Israel and the Jewish people as a whole must shoulder together the tasks of building the Jewish state.
