* Ehud Olmert defended Israel’s military offensive in Lebanon. In his first Knesset address since Hezbollah sparked a severe crisis by killing eight Israeli soldiers and abducting two others in a cross-border raid, the Israeli prime minister set three terms for a cessation of violence: that the two hostages are returned, cross-border rocket salvoes and other attacks cease and Hezbollah is disbanded in accordance with U.N. Security Council Resolution 1559.
