Ehud Olmert may have cancer surgery next month.
Israel’s Channel 2 television reported Wednesday that the prime minister, who announced in October that he has early stage prostage cancer, will likely undergo an operation for the disease in late January.
The surgery would take place after President Bush’s expected visit to Israel and the Palestinian Authority early in the month, Channel 2 added.
Olmert’s office had no immediate comment.
Though surgery would require that Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni temporarily assume the prime minister’s powers, Olmert has pledged to return to work after a quick recovery.
