Ehud Olmert would be willing to give up the Golan Heights to achieve peace with Syria. A senior Israeli official said Thursday that the prime minister has asked a third party for information on what Syria would offer Israel in return, The Associated Press reported. Olmert?s spokeswoman, Miri Eisen, would not comment except to say that while the prime minister favors peace with Syria, he “questions the desire of the present Syrian government to arrive at a resolution.” Israel seized the Golan Heights during the Six-Day War in 1967. Syria has long insisted on the return of the territory.
