Eight Jews were killed and 28 were wounded in the Moslem attack on the Jewish population of Safed Thursday evening, according to the latest report which reached here this morning. The Arabs set fire to the Jewish quarter and looting is continuing.

The surviving Jewish population is being sheltered in the government house and in the local hospital.

A very grave situation has developed in Tiberias. The local Arabs threaten to repeat the massacre of Safed.

The Moslems are congregating in the Mosque of Omar. Many are armed. It was a week ago today that the bloodshed was started following a similar assembly at the Mosque.

Leaders of the Jewish population in Palestine hold the view that the optimistic statement issued by the High Commissioner upon his arrival in Jerusalem and reproduced by the London authorities are premature. They charge the authorities with a continued lack of determination. It is stated here that the authorities of Safed, though they were in possession of machine guns, remained inactive during the looting and murdering, awaiting reinforcements.
