Eighty-two graduates were awarded degrees here today at the 70th annual commencement exercises of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. Ten prominent personalities were awarded honorary degrees, Graduates of the Seminary included 19 rabbis who received ordination, 24 recipients of the degree of master of Hebrew literature, two doctorates in Hebrew literature, one doctor of religious education, and 30 graduates of the Teachers Institute of the Seminary.
Recipients of the honorary degrees were: the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., noted clergyman and civil rights leader; Dr. Arthur Biram of Haifa, noted writer and educator, who was awarded the degree in absentia. Joseph Willen, executive vice-president of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York; Dr. Ben Zion Bokser, Rabbi Abraham Nowak and Rabbi Bernard Segal of New York; Rabbi Henry Fisher of Encino, Cal.; Rabbi Theodore Friedman, South Orange, N. J.; Rabbi Albert I. Gordon, Newton Centre, Mass.; and Rabbi Nathan Zelizer of Columbus, Ohio.
