President Johnson today announced a grant of $289,000 from the United States Office of Economic Opportunity, under the Administration’s Anti-Poverty Program, for the establishment of a network of “storefront neighborhood” aid centers to be conducted in The Bronx by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University.
The project will serve an area termed “the most disadvantaged in the city,” embracing a population of 350,000. The project will be conducted by the college’s department of psychiatry. The President’s grant to Einstein College is among Anti-Poverty Program projects for which he allocated $20,000,000 for New York and vicinity, out of a total of new grants aggregating $82,000,000 to institutions around the country.
