Messages from Albert Einstein and Mayor LaGuardia have been received at the national headquarters of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, it was announced yesterday, in connection with the organization’s twentieth annual convention to be held at the Wardman Park Hotel, Washington, from Oct. 14 to 16.
Dr. Einstein’s letter states that Hadassah “owes its fine success not only to stubborn energy and willingness to sacrifice but also to its practical sense and independence of action, which are particularly deserving of appreciation because of the distance and peculiarity of the Palestinian problems.”
Referring to the Hadassah-University medical center, for which the cornerstone will be laid in Jerusalem coincident with the opening of the convention, Mayor LaGuardia writes: “This hospital, dedicated as it will be not only to the curing of the sick but to important scientific research work, is indeed a magnificent monument.”
Similar messages were received from Samuel Untermyer, Jane Addams and heads of numerous Jewish organizations.
Fifteen hundred delegates and alternates are expected at the convention, it was announced. Approximately 400 will be from New York, Long Island, Westchester and cities in upper New Jersey.
