Three scientists at the Einstein Medical Center here have received a $219,000 grant from the National Institute of Health, for the study of nucleic acid and viruses, it was reported here today.
The recipients of the grant, which will extend over a five-year period, are Drs. Albert S.Kaplan and Tamar Ben-Porat, a husband-and-wife research team and Dr. Samuel J.Ajl, director of research. Dr. Pen-Porat, who came to this country from Israel about five years ago, has been working with her husband for the past three years.
The study is aimed at gaining a better understanding of infective processes and the treatment of viral diseases by chemicals. Specifically, the Kaplans will study the interactions of animal viruses and cells.
