President Eisenhower, in a public address delivered here today at the laying of a cornerstone at the Interchurch Center, national headquarters of 37 Protestant, Anglican and Eastern Orthodox Church bodies, deviated from his speech to condemn the bombing of the synagogue in Atlanta. Terming the terrorist act “deplorable,” the President said: “We must think of our self-respect.”
Leaders of Jewish organizations in New York took a grave view of the bombing of the synagogue in Atlanta. Hope was expressed that the FBI would this time not refuse to join the local police authorities in tracing the terrorists, as was the case in the earlier bombings synagogues in other Southern cities.
