President Eisenhower and Secretary of State John Foster Dulles sent greetings today to the American Council for Judaism which opens its 11th annual conference here tomorrow.
“I earnestly hope,” President Eisenhower wrote, in a message addressed to Lessing J. Rosenwald, president of the Council, “that your meetings will serve to promote a wider understanding among Americans of the ethical and spiritual values of Judaism and of their contribution to our civilization.” Mr. Eisenhower noted, in his message, that Mr. Rosenwald is scheduled to retire as president of the Council at this conference. He declared that Mr. Rosenwald had served the Council “with distinction.”
Secretary Dulles wrote that he believed it to be “particularly important” for the members of the Council to give “continuing study to the relationship of their rich and enduring faith to their rights and obligations as American citizens.” The Secretary expressed appreciation of the support the Council has given to current United States foreign policy for the Middle East. He added “warm personal greetings and best wishes” to Mr. Rosenwald on the occasion of Mr. Rosenwald’s retirement from the Council presidency.
