President Eisenhower told a delegation representing the National Conference of Christians and Jews today that a “decent, lasting and just peace for all men” is his primary personal goal as well as that of his administration. The Conference is holding its 26th annual meeting here.
The President said that he and his associates are dedicated to the pursuit of Peace. He said that the spirit of brotherhood exemplified by the National Conference of Christians and Jews will be a big factor in world peace.
“Without a conception of dignity of man founded on religious faith, we are sunk,” he said.
A Conference report to the President emphasized the importance of stressing the spiritual motivation behind the American aid programs benefitting underdeveloped areas. It warned against complacency and said there was much yet to be done in eliminating bias and furthering understanding. The report cited the work by voluntary organizations throughout the country, including Jewish organizations, in promoting religion and the American tradition of freedom.
