President Eisenhower sent a message of congratulations to Congregation B’nai Jeshurun, oldest Conservative synagogue in the United States, which this week-end marked its 130th anniversary. The message, sent to Dr. Israel Goldstein, spiritual leader of the congregation, read:
“On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun, I send my greetings to all its members. Since 1825, when its very establishment reflected the central American principle of religious freedom, your Congregation has had an impressive record not only of religious activity but of philanthropic and educational service as well. On sharing in this accomplishment I congratulate all of you, and I wish you every success in such endeavors in the years ahead.”
