General Dwight D. Eisenhower, chief of staff of the U.S. Army, paid tribute today to the graduates of the Jewish Institute of Religion who ministered to the men of the armed forces in this war.
He said in part: “The Jewish Institute of Religion has every right to take pride in the achievements of the Jewish chaplains. Their devotion to duty and excellent team-work with their fellow chaplains of other faiths has earned for them many expressions of approval from military commanders.” Fifty Institute chaplains, approximately a third of all the alumni of the rabbinical seminary, will be honored at the Founder’s Day dinner at the Hotel Biltmore Sunday evening.
