President Eisenhower made a new appeal to Congressional leaders who visited the White House this morning for determined action to secure passage of the administration’s bill to admit 240,000 additional Europeans in the next two years.
Among those who participated in the White House meeting today were chairman William Langer of the Senate Judiciary Committee and chairman Louis E. Graham of the House Judiciary Subcommittee. Acting Senate Majority Leader William F. Knowland made it known the immigration bill, as approved by the Judiciary Committee of the Senate,” would be acceptable” to the administration. In the House informed sources said there is a “fifty-fifty chance” of securing action on the measure this week.
