Former President Eisenhower has paid tribute to Israel’s national character, “the essence of her strength and greatness, ” and pledged continued “sympathetic interest” in Israel’s affairs, in a farewell letter to Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion which was released today.
“Before relinquishing the duties of my office, I bid you a personal farewell, ” Mr. Eisenhower wrote.”During the years I served as President of the United States, our cooperation in the mutual cause of world peace with Justice has been one I shall always remember with profound satisfaction.”
“Through our association, I gained a deeper insight into Israel’s national character, which is the essence of her strength and greatness, ” Mr. Eisenhower added. “I shall continue to follow the course of Israeli affairs with keen and sympathetic interest.”
