President Eisenhower today called on American to observe December 10 as United Nations Human Rights Day and asked a “study” of the U. N. Human Rights Declaration “to arouse our consciences” towards ends which might ultimately provide security to all people regardless of nationality, race, or religion.

“Let us study,” he said, “the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Bill of Rights in our own constitutions and basic laws that they may arouse our consciences to the need to defend our liberties and to extend the frontiers of freedom thus hastening the day when all people, of whatever nation, race or creed, will be secure in their enjoyment of their human rights and fundamental freedoms.”
