Air crews of the El Al Israel National Airlines rejected demands by the company’s management that they return to work today, and failed to report for duty in a walkout that began last Tuesday over negotiations for a new contract. The striking crews stated that they would consider returning to work only if the management withdrew a threat to dismiss the employees. The El Al dismissal threat has been supported by the Histadrut, the Israel labor federation.
El Al, meanwhile, has arranged improvised flights. El Al’s own planes may be chartered to other companies, if the strike is prolonged.
