The management of EI A Israel National Airlines announced today that striking crew members desiring to return to work would now have to file application forms which would be processed in the same manner as new applicants for Jobs.
The announcement came after the crew members who walked out last Tuesday over negotiations for a new contract, failed to report for work yesterday, the deadline set by the company with the approval of the Histadrut, the Israel labor federation.
The striking crewmen, who said they would consider returning to work only if the company withdrew its dismissal threat, said that El Al could not fire them and they engaged a lawyer to look into the contract provisions. In the meantime, the crewmen refused to turn in their uniforms.
El Al today began seeking bids from other airline companies interested in leasing their planes. The Histadrut meanwhile, summoned all aircrews for a meeting today without notifying the aircrews’ committee.
