A man and woman in their 80s were killed yesterday when an explosion wrecked their house in the Hadar Yossef section of Tel Aviv. Two other elderly couples in adjoining houses were injured by splinters of glass when their homes were damaged.
The dead were identified as Shmuel and Tova Alfi. One of the injured couples were identified as Alex and Ilana Lefkowitz. The third couple was only slightly injured. Police said the explosion appeared to be due to a faulty butane gas cylinder or one that was deliberately exploded. They are inclined to rule out the incident as a terrorist act and believe it was the result of an individual act of revenge. Nevertheless, several Arabs who work in the area were detained for questioning.
