The Emir Abdullah, who has just returned to Amman after having accompanied his father, King Hussein, for some part of the way to Mecca, has been given a public reception there on his arrival.
Speaking at the reception, the Emir described the present situation in Transjordania and his work as ruler of the country. He particularly dwelt on the two risings which took place last year, stressing that both had failed and that it had been found possible to amnesty the rebels, who were now loyal subjects. There is much criticism, he said, of my extravagance and allegations that money is being wasted, but in order to be able to carry out reforms and to build up the country it is necessary to spend a great deal of money. The Emir announced that he is establishing an Advisory Council for the Government of Transjordania.
He reproached those who are opposed to the proclamation of King Hussein as Calip, particularly the French authorities in Syria. He declared, however, that only the minor officials in Syria were hostile to King Hussein, the central government of France being friendly with the Hashimite family.
