Anti-Semitic students at the University of Poznan have offered restaurants in that city immunity from further attacks, it was reported in the press here today, provided they pledge in exchange for such “protection” not to buy from Jews or employ Jewish help or Jewish musicians.
The offer was made, according to the press, at a conference of the students, who are members of the Endek (anti-Semitic Nationalist) Party, and the Union of Restaurant Owners.
The students, in addition to their other demands, asked that the restaurants display large posters stating that they “purchase only from Polish Christians.” They pledged in return not to attack any restaurants observing these conditions, even if Jewish guests are found patronizing them.
It was also reported that the Endek students have submitted an ultimatum to the rector of the university containing a demand that a numerus clausus be introduced curbing Jewish students. The ultimatum also demands that Jewish students attending the university be segregated, that they be forbidden to dissect Christian corpses and that they be deprived of the support of university funds.
Reports from several towns in the Poznan district state that a number of Jewish shops have been wrecked by hooligans.
The bombings which injured two Jews and damaged a synagogue and several Jewish homes in and near Katowice yesterday were officially described here tonight as “acts of sabotage against Jews.” Several persons have been arrested on suspicion of having planted the bombs.
