Engliand was attacked for tightening Palestinian immigration laws, by Leon H. Rose, member of the national executive committee of the Zionist Organization of America, in a debate on Palestine with Rabbi Nachman S. Arnoff of Temple Beth-El at the home of Jacob Naden.

“It was just for such an emergency,” excaimed Mr. Rose, “that the Balfour declaration was proclaimed and that the League of Nations made England a mandatory power. And at its first opportunity to have Palestine serve as a haven for the oppressed Jewish people in the Diaspora, British Government instead of opening wide its doors. says to Relief Commissioner Mcdonald, ‘Hands off Palestine’.”

Rabbi Arnoff defended Britain’s position on the ground that the Arab-Jewish question must first be solved before any more immigrants can enter Palestine. He said that it was up to the Zionist leaders to lend every effort towards creating friendly relations between Arab and Jew in the Holy Land.
