The municipal council of the town of Bury has appealed to the Ministry of Food to halt the slaughter of animals by Jewish ritual methods at the Bury abattoirs, it was learned here today. The Ministry is considering the request.
The Board of Deputies of British Jews, however, has stated that as far as it knows schechita is not practiced in the slaughterhouses at Bury. It has launched an investigation into the situation.
