Midwestern Jewish communities have been requested to send delegates to a special conference on the German Relief Campaign of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, to be held in Chicago, June 4, Rabbi Jonah B. Wise, national fund-raising chairman of the committee, announced yesterday. The conference, at which the Jews of fifteen states are expected to be represented, will consider methods of making relief available to the Jews in Germany and refugees from that country.
The conference is being called by a special committee which includes James Becker, Albert Lasker, Samuel A. Goldsmith and Sol Klein. Paul Baerwald, chairman of the Joint Distribution Committee, and Rabbi Jonah Wise will address the meeting.
Plans have been completed for drives in a number of the larger cities as part of the $2,000,000 German Relief Campaign, Dr. Wise declared. He appealed to the Jews of this country to support the relief endeavor.
Edward S. Bamberger, of Newark, is chairman, and Louis Bamberger, honorary chairman of a non-sectarian appeal to the people of Essex County, New Jersey, in behalf of the Joint Distribution Committee German relief drive. The campaign will be launched June 12.
