Count Jerzy Potocki, newly appointed Ambassador of Poland to the United States, said in an interview today that while the Jewish problem in Poland was pressing, the policy of the Government was to “keep down boycott and aggression.”
“We have 3,000,000 Jews in Poland,” he said. “Their very numbers demand serious attention and adjustment. There is no marked hostility toward them, though in a few chauvinistic Polish quarters there is a tendency to disregard the Government’s edicts and to discriminate.”
Discussing economic conditions in Poland, the Ambassador said his country was engaged in a fight against unemployment. The Government has in operation a public works construction program to relieve unemployment, he said.
Next Spring semi-military battalions, similar to civilian conservation corps, though on a semi-military basis will be founded and young unemployed will be drafted into units, he disclosed.
