Eric Silver, who wrote an acclaimed biography of Menachem Begin, died at the age of 73.
The veteran Middle East journalist died early Wednesday morning while undergoing cancer treatment.
Silver, a native of Leeds, England, in 1967 covered the aftermath of the Six-Day War for the The Guardian of London after working his way up from copy editor. Five years later he returned to Israel as a correspondent for The Guardian and The Observer.
Instead of accepting reassignment after a three-year stint in India, Silver in 1987 resigned from The Guardian to settle in Jerusalem.
He wrote the first extensive biography of Menachem Begin, “Begin: The Haunted Prophet,” which was published in 1984.
In Israel, Silver worked as a freelance writer for The Independent, Time, Maclean’s Magazine, The Statesman of India, The Jewish Chronicle, The Jerusalem Report and the Jerusalem Post.
