Prime Minister Levi Eshkol today received Walworth Barbour. United States Ambassador to Israel, for what was officially described as a discussion of current matters. It was assumed that recent Middle East developments, particularly activities of Egypt, were discussed at the meeting.
(In Washington, Israel Ambassador Avraham Harman today held a “routine meeting” with Under Secretary of State George Ball to discuss current problems with special reference to the Middle East.)
The Prime Minister appointed today a five-member committee to administer the joint United States-Israel project to test the possibilities of use of nuclear energy for large-scale sea water desalting. The committee is headed by Theodore Kollek, until recently director of the Prime Minister’s office. It includes representatives of the Finance Ministry, the Atomic Energy Commission, the Water Authority and the Electric Corporation.
