Prime Minister Levi Eshkol told the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs and Security Committee last night that Israel’s security had not deteriorated since he assumed the Defense Portfolio two and a half years ago.
He made the statement in reply to a question about charges made by former Premier David Ben-Gurion in which Mr. Ben-Gurion had accused Mr. Eshkol of bringing politics into Israel’s defense activities. The Premier commented that the charges were completely unfounded and were, in any case, so nebulous that reply was impossible.
After hearing the Premier, the committee agreed not to ask Mr. Ben-Gurion to appear and give his charges in detail but that, if he wished, he could raise them as a motion for the agenda.
