Eugen Landau, president of the Hilfsverein der deutschen Juden, the relief association of the German Jews, and one of the leading financiers and philanthropists in Germany, died here today at the age of 83.
Mr. Landau was Spanish Consul General in Germany. He was born in Breslau in 1852 and was instrumental in merging the Breslau Diskonto Bank and the Bayerische Bank with the National Bank for Germany. He also merged a number of industrial enterprises in Germany.
Funeral services will be held Thursday. Many Jewish institutions in which he was active during his lifetime will participate by sending delegations. He was vice-president of the Keren Hayesod in Germany.
