Europe must ban hate speech on the Internet and in political campaigns in light of the recent election successes of far-right parties in Switzerland and Austria, said Germany’s new representative to the European Jewish Congress. Michael Friedman, a Frankfurt attorney and member of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, said the recent increase in xenophobic crimes in Germany also makes the move necessary.
