THe European District of the B’nai B’rith has invited Egyptian Vice President Hosni Mubarak to attend and address its annual conference which will take place in Israel later this month. Mubarak, who is on an official visit to France, where he is on a study tour of France’s nuclear power industry, was given a formal invitation yesterday signed by the European District president Georges Bloch. He has not yet replied.
Mubarak, who arrived in Paris Sunday, is due to meet French President Valery Giscard d’Estaing. French and Egyptian sources here say the two are due to examine the possibility of French guarantees to an eventual peace agreement in the Middle East. Egypt is interested in obtaining West European guarantees on top of those to be extended by the United States and the Soviet Union. Mubarak, Egyptian sources say, will also brief Giscard on the latest developments in the Cairo talks.
Mubarak’s tour of France’s nuclear power industry is part of Egypt’s ongiong interest in acquiring more nuclear stations. Egypt has already purchased in France a 600-megawatt nuclear power station due to be completed in the mid-1980s. (By Edwin Eytan)
