Evidences of a revival of anti-Semitism in Peru since the establishment of the military dictatorship of Gen. Manuel Odria are causing much concern to this country’s Jewish community of 3,000 souls.
The most disquieting symptom is the publication in the newspaper Adelante (Forward) of openly anti-Jewish articles. Adelante is considered a quasi-official publication and is frequently described as a government mouthpiece.Following the eat hawing of the Aprista Party and its publications, the proprietors of Adelante were permitted to appropriate the property of the Aprista daily, La Tribuna.
Since the establishment of the new regime, three issues have appeared of a new magazine, El Temple, which is violently anti-Jewish in character. Jewish leaders here have also protested to the Lima broadcasting station against anti-Jewish references in its programs.
