Former Jewish Agency Chairman Simcha Dinitz began giving evidence in his own defense on charges of having used agency credit cards for personal purpose.
Appearing at the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court as the first witness for the defense, Dinitz argued Monday that he was not required to report expenses, based on the status he had been granted by the Jewish agency board of governors.
He explained that in practice, he had been given a status technically similar to that of the prime minister, adding that he had behaved like the prime minister when it came to matters of expenses incurred while performing agency business.
Dinitz faces charges of using Jewish Agency funds totaling $22,000 for purchases he made for himself and his family while traveling abroad.
