The hope that Great Britain will continue to administer Palestine, the apandonment of which would be “a great set-back of one of the world’s hopes”, was expressed by ex-Governor Allen of Kansas, who arrived in London from a tour of the Near East in behalf of the Near East Relief Committee.
“Palestine is the most hopeful spot in the Near East”, the former Governor stated in an interview with a TIMES representative “I am convinced of the absolute impartiality of Sir Herbert Samuel’s Administration who is giving Palestine the best government the country ever had. As Churchill, the former colonial Secretary, clearly explained the intention underlying the establishment of a Homeland for the Jews does not mean that Palestine will be turned over to the control of the Jews.
“Jewish thought is gradually readjusting itself to the realization that British residency in Palestine is giving all racesequal justice. Palestine’s progress has been somewhat checked by misunderstanding Nevertheless the Jewish colonies, where modern farming equipment is used are showing satisfactory progress. The land is capable of sustaining a goodly population, as is proven by its history. There would be a great set back to the world’s hope if Britain should abandon the Palestine Mandate”.
