Another dismal page has been written in the history of monarchs of the twentieth century.

Ex-King Hudscin of the Hodjaz left Jeddah yesterday on his yacht under circumstances of loneliness and cheerlessness which would be hard to surpass, according to advices from the Arabian port.

No one cheered him as his car went to the dilapidated jetty where the yacht was anchored. No faithful followers bade him return speedily to regain the throne. The council of notables held completely aloof, and before he set sail he had only one conference and that was with the ex Minister of Finance, Mohammed Bey Tawil of Jeddah, who really was responsible for Hussein’s overthrow.

Hussein expects to go to Transjordania. But even there he may find a cold welcome, as it was feared his presence would give rise to conspiracies. All neighboring countries have refused to accord him sheltor, and he finally may have to take asylum in Switzerland.

Reports from Mecca say plundering continued last night, several houses of ministers and rich citizens having been sacked.

It is estimated half the population has fled. Foot sore and destitute refugees continue to arrive at Joddah.
