A violent attack on the Government of Premier Adnan Menderes and its Middle East policy was launched in a Parliamentary debate here by Israel # nonu, leader of the opposition Republican Party and former President of Turkey. Mr. ###nonu charged that the error of the Menderes policy was exemplified by his encouragement of one side “by promising to rush to us frontiers just when Arab-Israeli relations have worsened and when a peaceful solution to the problem is sought.” He also charged that Turkey had assumed too many commitments in connection with the Bagdad Pact.

Mr. ##non##s reference to encouragement of one side was intended as criticism of statements attributed to the Premier during a recent tour, especially when he told Jordan’s Arab Legion that it should “not be surprised” if Turkish troops came to its aid in the event of a war Mr. Menderes who had earlier reaffirmed his intention to strengthen the Bagdad Pact and Turkey’s policy of friendship with the Arab states, was given a strong vote of confidence by the Parliament.
