An exhibition of modern Israeli graphic art was officially opened here yesterday at the Moscow State Art Museum, the largest in the Soviet Union, it was reported today by Novosti, Soviet press agency. Some 1,000 persons visited the exhibition during the first day, Novosti estimated. The exhibition includes 84 works by 12 artists, most of them of the younger generation of Israeli artists.
The opening was attended by outstanding Soviet artists and personalities. In an address at the gathering, Irina Antonova, director of the museum, said that the people of Moscow “will be happy to view the works of Israeli artists displayed here. I hope it will serve the good cause of strengthening the cultural relations between the Soviet Union and Israeli.” The well-known stage director, Victor Komissarzhevsky, praised the works of the Israeli artists. Israel Embassy press attache Ben Haim also spoke.
