Experts to Meet in Montreal in World Assembly on Human Rights

Thirty-five human rights experts from all parts of the world will meet here Friday for a six-day World Assembly on Human Rights. They will meet in their individual capacities in a private observance of the International Year for Human Rights to be held under United Nations auspices in Teheran in April.

Among the experts who will participate in the Montreal sessions are Justice Haim Cohn of the Supreme Court of Israel; Dr. Maxwell Cohen, dean of the law faculty of McGill University, Montreal; Justice Harry Batshaw of the Superior Court of Montreal, and Prof. Julius Stone of the Sydney University Law School, Sydney, Australia. Trygve Lie, first Secretary-General of the United Nations, and Chief S. O. Adebo, United Nations. Under-Secretary-General and executive director of the U.N. Institute for Training and Research, will be co-presidents of the assembly.

Representatives of a number of Jewish non-governmental organizations accredited to the United Nations, will attend the conference as observers in a personal capacity. Saul Hayes, executive vice-president of the Canadian Jewish Congress, has been invited to participate as an observer as have representatives of the American Jewish Committee, the World Jewish Congress and B’nai B’rith.
