The official Czechoslovakian press agency in Germany publishes an explanation of the government position regarding the purchase by Ignatz Petscheck, coal baron of Czechoslovakia, of the Ostelbien mines located in Germany near the Czech border. Petscheck, a Jew, had not been approached by the government, states the release, to purchase these mines in order to help the Czechs to free their last bit of unredeemed land in the Lausitz district from German rule. Petscheck’s purchase, says the report, was entirely uninfluenced by politics of state.
