An off-duty policeman was slightly injured this morning when a suspicious-looking parcel exploded as he was handling it. The parcel had been removed from a bus on Shivtel Israel St. near the Ministry of Education and Culture on the boundary between East and West Jerusalem. Police had been alerted and were sending a bomb squad when the off-duty officer, apparently unaware, tried to move the object. Police cordoned off the area and detained several passers-by for questioning. An explosive charge detonated on the Bethlehem-Tzur Baher Road on the southeastern outskirts of Jerusalem earlier today but caused no injuries.
