Extreme shynes suddenly developed among Socialists and liberals of this city when they were presented with an invitation to serve as chairman at the lecture given by Emma Goldman, internationally known anarchist, in the Pabst Theater here last night.
Among those who turned down the invitations were Mayor Daniel W. Hoan, Mrs. Victor L. Berger, Alderman Paul Gauer, Socialist president of the Common Council; Professor John R. Cotton of the State Teachers’ college, the Rev. Ralph Compere, Rabbi Joseph L. Baron, Michael Levin and others.
