The Maurice and Laura Falk Foundation of Pittsburgh today announced an additional grant of $500,000 for the continuation of the Falk Project for Economic Research in Israel through the establishment of “The Maurice Falk Institute for Economic Research in Israel,” which will be part of the Hebrew University.
The announcement was made at a dinner of The Maurice and Laura Falk Foundation, honoring Eliahu Elath, president of the Hebrew University. The Falk Foundation $500,000 grant has been matched by a similar half million dollar grant from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
The establishment of The Maurice Falk Institute for Economic Research, under the aegis of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, continues a program of aid initiated by the Pittsburgh Falk Foundation more than 10 years ago. In 1952, the Falk Foundation was asked to establish an Economic Research Program in Israel to seek information which would help advance the economy of Israel.
Leon Falk, Jr., chairman of the Foundation’s board, and J. Steele Gow, executive director, met with Abba Eban, then the Ambassador from Israel to the United States. As a result, the Falk Foundation made an initial grant of $386,000 to set up the Falk Project for a period of five years.
