Lord Birkett, one of the Judges at the Nuremberg war crimes trials, warned here today that the world must be reminded “from time to time” about the evils of anti-Semitism and racial prejudice.
In a message to the opening of an exhibit scheduled to be dedicated Wednesday, of materials depicting the tragic story of the Warsaw Ghetto under the Nazi regime, the famous barrister and jurist stated: “While the records of the Nuremberg trials are in most of the world’s libraries, the public at large must be reminded, from time to time, of the fearful fate that befalls a nation and people when justice is cast out, and when evil things such as anti-Semitism and racial prejudice are allowed to pervade the State and are actively encouraged.”
The exhibit is made up chiefly of photographs, paintings and mementoes of the Warsaw Ghetto collected by a former native of Warsaw, Dr. Alexander Bernfes. The exhibit is being sponsored by the Board of Deputies of British Jews, the World Jewish Congress, the Polish-Jewish Ex-Servicemen’s Association and a special memorial Committee.
