Fans of Czech-born Jewish pianist Rudolf Serkin are planning a music festival in the Czech town of Cheb in 2003 to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth. Serkin, who died in 1991, had a celebrated international performing career. He was awarded honorary membership with the New York Philharmonic in 1972 on the occasion of his 100th performance with the orchestra.
