The existence of a “panel code” deem up by the fascist underground in Poland, providing for punishment for Poles who harbored Jews during the Nazi regime, was discovered here with the arrest of a number of members of the “Orlik” band.
Police found a document on the leader of the band which stated that one Jan Karczewski had been fined 50,000 zlotys for “friendliness toward Jews” and had been threatened with heavier fines if he continued to have relations with Jews. All the arrested members of the “Orlik” band were discovered to be members of Vice-Premier Stanislas Mikolajczyk’s Peasant Party.
Henryk Libensfreund, a Jew, was kidnapped this week from a train which had stopped at a small station near the city of Radomsk and no trace of him has been found. He was en route to Cracow from Warsaw where he had made arrangements through the Joint Distribution Committee to join relatives in the United States.
Police in Wroclaw are investigating the explosion of a bomb near a Hashomer Hatzair training center in the city. It has not yet been established whether the bomb was planted by fascists or whether it was an unexploded shell which fell during a sharp engagement in the area in the last days of the war in Poland.
